What to Expect Fishing Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach sits at the heart of one of Florida's most productive inshore fisheries. You've got the Halifax River, Mosquito Lagoon just to the south, and miles of backwater grass flats that hold fish year-round. Redfish and spotted seatrout are the backbone of the inshore bite, with sheepshead, black drum, mangrove snapper, and flounder filling out the cooler on most days.

The nearshore reefs and channels open up other possibilities — tarpon push through seasonally, jack crevalle are almost always around, and when conditions are right, pompano and ladyfish make the light tackle fishing genuinely fast and fun.

The fishing here changes with the tides, the season, and the weather — which is exactly why having a captain who knows these waters is the difference between a great day and a wasted one. Capt. Matt fishes these spots constantly. He knows where they're biting, and he'll put you on them.

Meet Captain Matt Maddox

Captain Matt has been fishing the Halifax River and Indian River since before he could walk—his journey started while his mother fished the riverbanks with him still in her womb. From wading the shallows to kayaking the backwaters and eventually running his own boat, Matt has spent a lifetime learning these waters inside and out.

His deep passion for fishing led him to become a charter captain, where he now shares his knowledge and love for the sport with others—helping every guest experience the very best these local waters have to offer.
